Ziaire Williams ready for a breakout in year two with the Memphis Grizzlies
The last takeaway from Saturday night’s contest was how comfortable Ziaire Williams looked on the court.
He definitely has gained some size, which will do nothing but benefit him moving forward.
Early on, his shot looked phenomenal, and although he evened out eventually, going 4-10 from the field and 2-3 from the three-point line while also adding five rebounds and two assists is nothing to hang your head about. Just like in summer league, he looked like he has taken another step with creating his own shot, and can also set up the offense with ease.
He is also destined to improve his three-point percentage of 31% from last season, as it’s getting to the point where I think the ball is going in every time it leaves his hands.
On the defensive end, his length seemed to impact whoever he was guarding on-ball tremendously, and his aggression on the boards was a very good thing to see.
With his play tonight, I think it becomes more probable that we see a starting five of Morant, Bane, Williams, Brooks, and Adams on opening night.
A stronger, smarter Ziaire Williams with a year under his belt looks like he is ready to be that electric sixth man that the Grizzlies lost in De’Anthony Melton, and is starting to show what the Grizzlies saw in him when they took him 10th in the 2020 NBA draft.
