Memphis Grizzlies: 3 takeaways from preseason win vs. Magic

Dillon Brooks seeing a return to form for Memphis Grizzlies
Dillon Brooks’ stats from his preseason debut may not pop off the page, but, as always, his defensive prowess was evident throughout Monday’s matchup. Paolo Banchero’s “welcome to the league” moment may have come earlier than expected with Brooks forcing him to go 2/9 from the field. Banchero was a -18 when he was on the floor in this game, and Brooks picked up right where he left off as one of the best defenders in the NBA.
There was no surprise for Brooks on the defensive end. On the other side of the floor is where it got interesting. Everyone knows he loves to get his field goal attempts up, but, in this game, every starter except Steven Adams attempted more shots. Many Memphis Grizzlies fans are hoping this is a sign of more to come for the six-year veteran. No one wants Brooks NOT to shoot, it was his errant shot selection that many questioned.
With his defense, alongside a disciplined shot selection, Brooks could be on his way to an all-star caliber year.
