With the regular season beginning on Oct. 19 for the Memphis Grizzlies, the team has been hard at work finalizing their roster for the 2022-23 regular season. However, they’ve also been working behind the scenes to extend contracts and negotiate new ones.

The Grizzlies have been investing heavily in retaining the talent they’ve drafted over the last few years to maintain continuity, chemistry and growth trajectory.

In fact, of the 17 players currently under contract with the Memphis Grizzlies, 14 are or will have played their first ever NBA minutes with the Grizzlies. The only players on the roster who did not start their careers in Memphis are Tyus Jones, Danny Green and Steven Adams, which is hard to comprehend in a day and age in which NBA players are so transient and seek to form super teams.

With so many players getting new contracts on the Grizzlies, let’s take a look at each player’s current contract status.

Memphis Grizzlies have most of their core under long-term control

The Grizzlies have an astounding 10 players under contract through the 2024-25 NBA season. If they agree to contract extensions with Desmond Bane and Kenneth Lofton Jr., that number could balloon up to 12 players under contract.

Let’s take a quick look at each Grizzlies player currently on the team and what their contract status looks like before the regular season begins on Oct. 19.

Steven Adams

Under contract through 2024-25

Steven Adams, 29, signed a $25.2 million contract extension Oct. 1 to keep him with the Memphis Grizzlies for the next several years. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2022-23 season, but the Grizzlies and Adams agreed to a two-year extension to keep him in Memphis through the 2024-25 NBA season.

Santi Aldama

Under team control through 2025-26

Aldama, 22, is still on his rookie contract and the Grizzlies have control of that contract through the 2024-25 season. They have a team option they can pick up for the 2024-25 season, which must be done by Oct. 31, 2023. Aldama and the team can begin negotiating a contract extension after the 2023-24 season.
