Memphis Grizzlies: Could history be made at FedEx Forum this season?
By Noah Hancock
1. Injuries and Father Time will affect LeBron’s timeline
LeBron needs 1,325 points to break the scoring record. Even with the amazing season, he had last year, he did not score that many points until the beginning of March last season, due to injury. LeBron has never been one to miss many games because of injury, but over the last two seasons, he has missed significant time due to an injury. When that inevitably happens again, it will push that window of opportunity back slightly right to the Memphis game on February 28th.
Because James is 37 going on 38 this season, he has been having to sit out more games for rest and nagging injuries. He may not have the luxury of picking and choosing which game he decides to break the record as many fans seem to speculate. As Memphis may not be his first selection of play, but I think it will be one for which the stars align.
2. What are the odds Lebron James breaks scoring record vs Memphis Grizzlies?
When it comes to predicting events, most turn to the betting odds. Currently, the highest odds of Lebron breaking the scoring record sits at +300 for 2/28 at Memphis. The only line with higher odds currently is -150 after 1/31 in New York. Currently, the odds on that particular game in New York sit at +550. The -150 betting line comes from the number of games he will have after that date, and the improbability he will score enough before that date.
The sole fact that bets with the highest odds are going toward this Memphis game is wild. People are putting their money on the line for Lebron to break the record in Memphis, which should be enough evidence of the likelihood of it happening.
