Memphis Grizzlies: Studs and Duds from outstanding win vs Brooklyn Nets
Studs from Memphis Grizzlies win vs Brooklyn Nets
The Grizzlies had excellent production from most of their starters in the big win over Brooklyn.
Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant
Ja Morant gave another dazzling performance for fans at FedEx Forum, pouring in 38 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals. His free-throw shooting and three-point shooting continue to look dramatically improved from a season ago, which is great news for the Grizzlies. Morant is already having an MVP-like season through the first four games of the season.
Memphis Grizzlies guard Desmond Bane
Desmond Bane had struggled in the first few games of the season but had his coming out party vs Brooklyn, nailing an impressive 8 threes in the game. That’s the same amount he made in the first three games of the NBA season combined.
Bane never wavered during the shooting slump in the first three games, despite posting field goal percentages of 27.3 percent, 18.8 percent, and 36.4 percent prior to hitting 66.7 percent of his field goal attempts against the Nets.
Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant
Durant was otherworldly, posting 37 points in 39 minutes on 70% shooting from the field. He had a ton of help from Kyrie Irving, who also posted 37 points on 58% shooting himself.
The Grizzlies obviously struggled to contain Durant, despite throwing Brooks on him and Aldama at times. It didn’t matter, Durant is one of the most gifted scorers in the world. The only way to stop KD is to hope he’s just slightly off the mark with his shot attempt. As long as he stays healthy, the Nets will always have a chance to win, no matter who they’re playing.
Memphis Grizzlies forward Santi Aldama
Santi Aldama had his best game since the season opener when he posted 18 points and 11 rebounds against the Knicks. He was incredibly efficient against the Nets, posting 17 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, and 1 block. Aldama has carved out his role nicely with the starters and is never caught trying to do too much, which is exactly what Taylor Jenkins needs from him.
