Last season, Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant cemented himself as one of the most electrifying players in the NBA right now. Every night, he is pulling off a feat of athleticism that has never been seen before from a point guard standing at six-foot-three.

While we’re only a handful of games into the season, Morant already has his fair share of eye-popping highlights. Even though it was ultimately called a charge, his attempt at a game-winning layup against the New York Knicks on opening night was an incredible mix of hang time and body control. On top of that, he has multiple chase-down blocks that will get any fan off their seat.

In their most recent matchup, the Grizzlies faced off against Kevin Durant and the Brooklyn Nets. Before the game took place, KD was asked to give his thoughts on Memphis’ walking highlight reel. The former MVP had a lot of positive things to say and even compared him to a Hall of Fame guard.

"He’s a unique player with a lot of athleticism and creativity out there. Body type reminds me of someone like, we’ll he’s taller than [Allen Iverson], wiry strong player. He’s an incredible player man, just doing some stuff that we’ve never seen before."

Allen Iverson is Ja Morant’s best player comparison

Kevin Durant isn’t the first person to compare Ja Morant to Allen Iverson, and he likely won’t be the last. As far as player comparisons go, he is the closest thing to the Grizzlies star.

Both are slightly undersized but never let it get in the way of their greatness. Iverson is still known as one of the best players ever, pound for pound, and Morant is on a similar path.

Iverson wasn’t the freak athlete Morant is, but their playstyles still mirror each other in some ways. Despite being smaller players, they still manage to do most of their damage at their rim. Their combination of ball handling, quickness, and agility allow them to get past larger defenders.

Given that Iverson managed to almost single-handedly take the Philadelphia 76ers to the NBA Finals, Memphis is certainly hoping Morant can live up to this comparison.
