”Masked Mike” was the epitome of Grit and Grind

Conley had missed the last two games of the first round against the Blazers and Game 1 of the semifinals against the Warriors due to CJ McCollum’s elbow that caused multiple facial fractures and put him in surgery.

While most people assumed that he’d miss the rest of the season, Conley put his mask on and showed up for Game 2 at Oracle, surprising everyone. He finished the game with 22 points and outplayed the MVP, Stephen Curry, as the Grizzlies tied the series in an astonishing performance.

Heading to Memphis, fans wore their masks too, and the Grizzlies would take advantage of their momentum to steal game 3. However, with Conley hurt and also Tony Allen injuring his hamstring in game 4, they would eventually fall in six games.

Mike’s masked game was the epitome of the “All Heart, Grit and Grind” mentality of that team. The effort he put in despite the pain showed his toughness and resulted in one of the most iconic performances in Grizzlies’ history. And it surely hasn’t been forgotten by Memphis fans.
