Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, the people over at NBA.com are not as high on them as BR. While they moved them up on their list from last week, Memphis find themselves just outside the top ten in the 11th spot. The two teams ahead and below them are the Dallas Mavericks and San Antonio Spurs.

"Not getting stops has been the story on both ends of the floor; The Grizzlies have combined with their opponents to score 118.9 points per 100 possessions (the league’s highest combined rate). They’re in the top six in both effective field goal percentage and offensive rebounding percentage, and they’re in the bottom six in those same categories on the other end of the floor."

It is no secret Memphis has struggled on the defensive end of the floor. Their 119.9 rating is good for the 28th best in the league. The only teams performing worse than them are the Brooklyn Nets and Detroit Pistons.

While this is a glaring weak spot, it’s not shocking to see the Grizzlies struggle on defense to open the year. Jaren Jackson Jr. and Dillon Brooks are two of the team’s top defenders, and both have primarily been on the sidelines. Once they are nightly fixtures in the lineup again, their defense should start to trend in the right direction.
