Should the Memphis Grizzlies be keeping tabs on Kevin Durant?
Along with putting together a roster full of exciting young talent, the Memphis Grizzlies front office has kept themselves in a prime position to make a big splash. Armed with all of their draft picks for the foreseeable future, they are in complete control of their future.
Over the summer, the big story in the NBA was the Kevin Durant trade saga. Among the teams to make a call regarding the two-time MVP was the Memphis Grizzlies. With the Brooklyn Nets continuing to spiral, some are starting to wonder if the sweepstakes will re-open at some point in the near future.
During a recent episode of “The Lowe Post,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe and Bobby Marks touched on how the Nets’ spiral could affect Durant’s situation. He feels that multiple teams around the league are ready to start discussing trades for the future Hall of Famer again.
“I don’t think this is going to be fast. I don’t know that it will ever really happen. But I know the whole league is ready to reengage on Durant,” said Lowe.
The Memphis Grizzlies should be paying close attention to Kevin Durant’s situation in Brooklyn
It goes without saying that a majority of teams around the league will inquire about Durant if he’s made available again. However, the Memphis Grizzlies are a team that should be closely monitoring things in Brooklyn.
For starters, the Memphis Grizzlies are one of the few teams that have the capital to get a mega-deal like this done. Between all their draft capital and enticing young players, they can put together a strong package to offer Brooklyn.
While it may seem a bit premature to go all in on a player like KD, the Memphis Grizzlies are on the fast track. Ja Morant continues to rapidly improve his game, while other players on the roster have taken a massive step forward in their development.
Fresh off finishing with the second seed last year, Memphis is right on the cusp of contention. Bringing in a player like KD would certainly put them over the edge to being a legitimate contender.
Surrounded by a young and hungry team, Durant can slide in and provide much-needed star power and perimeter offense. There is no telling what will happen with the All-Star forward in the coming months, but Memphis should continue to do its due diligence.
