Grizzlies vs. Kings prediction and odds for Monday, January 23 (Memphis bounces back)
By Peter Dewey
The Memphis Grizzlies’ winning streak came to an end last week, and now they’ve lost two straight games after falling behind in a big way in the first half against the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.
Memphis only ended up losing by two, but the team is now 1.5 games out of the No. 1 seed in the West. Now, the Grizzlies and Ja Morant take on the No. 3 seed in the West, the Sacramento Kings, on Monday.
The Kings are 7-3 in their last 10 games, using that run to jump over the New Orleans Pelicans in the standings. This is a tough matchup for the Grizz, as the Kings are also top-10 in the league in net rating and pace, meaning they’ll be able to run and gun with the Grizz’s high-powered attack.
Memphis has been much worse on the road (11-12 straight up) than at home, but it could be due for a bounce back as short favorites in this game.
Here are the latest odds and my prediction for this matchup:
Grizzlies vs. Kings odds, spread and total
Grizzlies vs. Kings prediction and pick
The Grizzlies have been solid in the second night of back-to-backs this season, going 4-2 against the spread.
There’s an interesting trend that I don’t want to read too much into, but it’s hard to ignore in this game. The Kings are just 3-10 against the spread this season with a rest advantage.
That’s insane!
As long as the Grizzlies have everyone suit up on Monday, I think this is a spot where they bounce back with a win.
Memphis is still playing at a high level, ranking second in the NBA in net rating over its last 10 games (the Kings are third).
I do think these teams are fairly evenly matched, especially on offense, but the Grizzlies rank first in the league in defensive rating compared to Sacramento at 25. That edge leads me to leaning on Memphis to win on the moneyline.
