Memphis Grizzlies big man Jaren Jackson Jr. has become the second-youngest NBA Defensive Player of the Year in league history.

It was announced on Monday night that the fifth-year man out of Michigan State had won the newly named Hakeem Olajuwon Trophy.

Capturing 56 of the 100 first-place votes, Jackson Jr. beat out Brook Lopez (second) and Evan Mobley (third) for the award.

It was certainly well deserved.

Jackson Jr. led the NBA in blocks per game (3.0) and was a critical part of the third-best defense in the league. While he was on the floor, Memphis allowed a mind-numbingly low106.6 points per 100 possessions and opposing players shot just 44% in the paint when Jackson Jr. was the closest defender.

In short – you can’t score on him. And that’s why this is the exact moment you should be celebrating with some new gear.
