Dillon Brooks, Houston Rockets

After his antics helped fuel the Los Angeles Lakers’ six-game series win over the Grizzlies in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, Dillon Brooks will seemingly not be back with Memphis next season. That’s according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania (Subscription required), who previously reported that Brooks would not be back in Memphis next season under any circumstances. If Brooks leaves in the coming weeks, which seems inevitable, the Houston Rockets appear to be the likeliest suitor.

Looking at potential wings to fill out their roster, the Rockets are reportedly looking at Brooks, as reported by Yahoo! Sports’ NBA Jake Fischer and multiple other outlets. With a massive amount of cap space, the Rockets could offer Brooks a nice deal and a prominent role. Houston has made it clear that they want to contend next season, and adding a versatile wing defender like Brooks to bring some edge and intensity to the defensive end would certainly help them in that regard.

Despite his antics this past season, Brooks is reportedly looking to get paid in NBA free agency, as ESPN’S Ramona Shelburne previously said that the wing wants $25 million annually on his new deal. That’s absurd, and while it would be surprising to see a team meet that asking price, Houston is the team likeliest to get the closest, given their cap space and rumored desire to add Brooks to the roster this off-season.
