3 realistic landing spots for ex-Memphis Grizzlies star

1. Boston Celtics

If the Phoenix suns are viewed as an ideal fit for Rudy Gay based largely off their title odds coming into the season, then the Boston Celtics should certainly be one of the top options for the veteran to consider.

As things currently stand, the shamrocks are a +550 to win it all this coming season, trailing only the reigning champion Denver Nuggets (+450) in such a category, making them the top contender in the Eastern Conference.

Though they’re highly touted as a legitimate threat to take home banner number 18 in 2024, Boston is far from a complete roster, and Richard Pereira of Hardwood Houdini recently suggested that the ex-Grizzlies wing could solve a lot of problems for the club.

"“First and foremost, Gay brings a wealth of experience to the table. As a seasoned veteran with over a decade of NBA experience, his on-court intelligence and leadership qualities would prove invaluable to the Celtics squad. Having played for various teams, Gay has encountered diverse playing styles and defensive strategies, making him adaptable and well-prepared to face the challenges posed by any opponent,” Pereira wrote."

Pereira would continue with his reasoning for why Rudy Gay would be a good add for the Celtics by noting his proven abilities as a two-way contributor.

"“He boasts an array of offensive moves, including an efficient mid-range jumper, a formidable post-up game, and the capability to attack the rim. This scoring creativity would greatly benefit the Celtics, providing additional offensive options that could alleviate the burden on star players like Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. Furthermore, Gay’s defensive capabilities make him an even more enticing addition to the Celtics. The defense has been a hallmark of Boston’s playing style over the years, and his versatility at the defensive end aligns perfectly with the team’s philosophy. His six-foot-eight frame and athleticism enable him to effectively guard multiple positions, rendering him a valuable asset in today’s position-less NBA, where defensive flexibility is paramount,” Pereira wrote."

Considering his 6-foot-8 frame that would allow head coach Brad Stevens to scheme up more lineup varieties, his experience serving as a veteran mentor, and his ample experience in the association, there’s a strong reason to believe that Rudy Gay could be an ideal addition for the title-hopeful Celtics.
