The collection of talent that this Memphis Grizzlies team currently has in tow is certainly an enviable one.

Filled with highly versatile personnel, from Ja Morant’s electrifying in-paint scoring prowess despite being a point guard to the 6-foot-3 Marcus Smart’s abilities to guard any position from the one down to, in some instances, a small-ball five, head coach Taylor Jenkins has a bevy of quality players who can help impact the game in a myriad of ways.

Recently, footage surfaced suggesting that there’s one more member of this Grizzlies team that’s looking to expand his game beyond traditional expectations for his respective position, as a video is currently going viral that shows beloved big man Steven Adams taking and subsequently making long-range shots during offseason workouts.

Throughout his soon-to-be 11-year NBA career, Adams has established himself as a more traditional, back-to-the-basket pivot who rarely strays away from the paint aside for when setting screens.

In fact, since entering the league as the 12 overall pick back in the 2013 draft, the 30-year-old has only attempted 15 total shots from beyond the arc, often in the form of desperation heaves.

Now, however, it appears as though the veteran is looking to mold himself into more of a floor-spacing threat, though some Grizzlies fans are not so optimistic about this development, with one calling the clip out as simply being cyclical propaganda.

Another user sporting the username “Grizzfan” would take things a step further by making a lackluster prediction regarding the big man’s long-range shooting potential in 2023-24.

While seeing Adams add a consistent jumper to his on-court repertoire would certainly be welcomed by Grizzlies fans and organization members alike, simply just having him back on the hardwood is going to make this club’s odds of contending that much stronger.

Last season, the center missed a whopping 40 games largely due to a PCL sprain in his right knee and was sidelined for the entirety of their one-and-done postseason run against the Los Angeles Lakers.

Prior to going down for the year in late January, Adams was posting averages of 8.6 points, 11.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 blocks on 59.7 percent shooting from the field while Memphis ranked third in win percentage (.674), first in offensive rebounding (13.4), first in total rebounding (49.4), first in defensive rating (109.2), and second in net rating (5.4).

Following his PCL sprain, however, without him in the rotation the club plummeted in each of these specified categories, ranking 13 (.556), 13 (10.3), 15 (43.1), ninth (112.6), and 13 (2.2), respectively.

One of the most underrated players in the association today, be it with a three-point jumper or not, the return of Steven Adams is bound to make this Grizzlies team much more menacing in 2023-24.
