Though the FIBA World Cup has been heavily covered within the news cycle for the better part of the last month, the official start of the tournament is slated to begin on Saturday, August 26. Taking part in the festivities are a plethora of NBA talents, some of whom have been and currently are employed by the Memphis Grizzlies.

With ex-forward Dillon Brooks suiting up for Team Canada, promising youngster Santi Aldama playing for Team Spain, and star big man Jaren Jackson Jr. manning the middle for Team USA, in a sense, Grind City will be found being represented all across the globe during the upcoming events.

FIBA World Cup Participants Grizzlies may consider trades for in 2023-24

And while these individuals are certainly impressive talents in their own right, there are several other names participating in this year’s worldwide event that, if available on the trade market in 2023-24, should be monitored closely by General Manager, Zach Kleiman.

3. Joe Ingles

This summer, forward Joe Ingles agreed to terms on a two-year, $22 million pact with the rebuilding Orlando Magic. The signing seems to have largely been based on adding veteran experience to such a youth-filled roster as well as, simply, trying to hit the league’s salary-cap requirements.

Though both aforementioned factors are certainly respectable, considering the veteran will be turning 36 this coming season, the clock is ticking on his chances to legitimately vie for that always coveted NBA Championship.

The Magic may have some promising talents lying about with the likes of Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and incoming rookie Anthony Black in tow, but they find themselves coming off a year where they registered the sixth-worst record in the entire league and don’t appear to have gotten much better this offseason.

As has been the case for the vast majority of his impressive professional career, Ingles will be looking to contribute toward some seriously competitive basketball whilst playing for Team Australia during this year’s FIBA World Cup.

To then follow this win-oriented culture up by playing for the potentially lottery-bound Magic may not sit all that well for the tantalizing three-and-D wing.

Should Orlando fall back on their losing ways like they did last season, one could realistically expect the franchise, along with Ingles himself, to look into moving on.

If this happens, the wing-needy Grizzlies may want to consider inquiring about his asking price on the trade market.
