Brian Windhorst just gave a bleak update on Ja Morant's future in Memphis

The Ja Morant era will likely still end this offseason.

Since early January, Ja Morant has been on the trade block, but any potential trade has still yet to materialize. While we already know Morant's trade value is low, it is still alarming how few suitors there currently are. It wasn't long ago that Ja Morant was an All-NBA-level talent, but there is still a strong chance that his time in Memphis could come to an end this offseason.

Given the fact that multiple teams such as the Kings, Pelicans, and Timberwolves don't currently have interest in Morant, there are likely limited paths towards trading him. Despite that fact, Brian Windhorst made a strong statement on Ja Morant's future. He had the following to say:

"I think we've probably have seen the last moments of Ja Morant in a Grizzlies uniform." - Brian Windhorst, ESPN

Windhorst went on to say that the Grizzlies are looking to totally reset the franchise and that the Cam Boozer pick plays a role. Given that the Next Gen Era had delivered just one playoff series win, it's understandable that the franchise went in a different direction.

But now, despite the lack of trade suitors for Ja Morant, it is notable that the Grizzlies are still looking to trade him despite having a strong 2026 NBA Draft and just now acquiring Isaiah Stewart.

Previously selected second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, Morant's time in Memphis could come to an end after seven seasons.

It will be interesting to monitor what's next for Ja Morant

There had been some talk of the Grizzlies and Ja Morant potentially working towards a reconciliation if a trade fails to materialize. Even though Ja Morant is a strong basketball fit around Zach Edey and Cam Boozer, it's still possible that he won't be on the roster for opening night. If the Grizzlies and Morant decided to go separate directions, a trade would be the best solution rather than a buyout.

However, if a reconciliation cannot be reached between Morant and the front office, a buyout cannot exactly be ruled out even though it's an outcome that would ideally be avoided. The hope would be for another suitor to emerge now that the NBA Draft is over, especially considering there are multiple teams that badly need a point guard.

Even though Morant has missed significant time and struggled with offensive consistency in recent seasons, he still remains incredibly talented, and it is surprising that a team hasn't yet taken the chance on attempting to get him back to his previous best.

The Grizzlies will still likely be one of the busiest teams in the NBA the rest of the offseason. But one of the biggest storylines will be if Ja Morant is still wearing a Grizzlies jersey in the fall.
