Grizzlies fans expected this outcome, but GG Jackson II and Olivier-Maxence Prosper both had their team options exercised. After what looks like an impressive 2026 NBA Draft for the Grizzlies on paper, this is the first step towards what should still be a roster crunch in Memphis.
GG Jackson II averaged 12.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 55 games while also making 28 starts. Jackson II had a strong run of consistent double-digit scoring after the trade deadline and looked the most comfortable he's been as a scorer since entering the league. This will be a pivotal year for Jackson II as he must keep growing as a defender.
Even though Jackson II has been talked about as a potential trade option at times, the Grizzlies would still be wise to bet on his upside this upcoming season. He will still be just 21 years old at the start of the season and has the talent to become a crucial winning piece in Memphis long-term.
Olivier-Maxence Prosper, also known as "OMax," was signed to a two-way contract before the start of last season after the Mavericks waived him. The Grizzlies ended up capitalizing on the Mavericks' failure to trade Prosper despite him drawing some trade interest. After giving the Grizzlies consistently solid minutes, Prosper eventually earned a standard contract from the team.
Given the fact that OMax's deal was not very long-term compared to some of the other standard contracts the Grizzlies have given out recently, and the fact that the team still has to create roster space, there has been some speculation that he could be one of the victims of any roster crunch.
However, this news bodes well for OMax and is a good reward for how much he improved last season. He averaged 10 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.8 stocks (steals and blocks) in 53 games. He brings energy, and it was also a pleasant surprise to see him hit 40.5% of his threes. It will be interesting to see how much he features in what should be a deeper rotation in Memphis.
It will be interesting to see if either player is still potentially included in any larger trade package, but the Grizzlies banking on their upside for next season could very well be worth it. On the flip side, other players on the roster such as Santi Aldama could be less likely to continue in Memphis next season.
This is the first domino of what should still be an interesting rest of the offseason for the Grizzlies.
