The Cam Boozer-to-Memphis dream has officially come true with the third overall pick. After an impressive freshman season at Duke that saw Boozer win the Wooden Award, it was clear that Boozer was one of the best players in the class and had a strong case to go #1 overall. Now, the Grizzlies look set to have one of the most promising young frontcourts in the entire NBA.

Boozer started in all 38 games for the Blue Devils and averaged 22.5 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 4.1 assists in 33.4 minutes per contest. Boozer is an impressive offensive hub who brings an impressive level of physicality at 6 foot 9 and 253 pounds. Set to turn 19 years old next month, Boozer is in the perfect position to erase any doubts about his perceived upside in the class.

Boozer is such a tremendous fit for the Grizzlies

Boozer will almost certainly start from Day 1 and has a clear path to immediate NBA success thanks to his tenacious rebounding and impressive playmaking for a power forward. Given how much Tuomas Iisalo loves pick-and-roll in his offense, he gains another high-level handler and roll man in Cam Boozer.

It wasn't long ago that the Grizzlies traded fan favorite Jaren Jackson Jr. to the Utah Jazz. But now, the Grizzlies likely have a clear long-term replacement at the power forward position just months later. Even though Boozer will have to continue growing as a defender, it is not unreasonable to think that he will be one of the most skilled offensive players to ever put on a Grizzlies jersey.

The Grizzlies could have a new franchise cornerstone

Cam Boozer has been a proven winner at every level he has played at, and even at a young age, he should bring valuable leadership skills right away. At Duke, he helped make the players around him even better, and he will have the chance to do the same thing in a Grizzlies jersey.

The Grizzlies now have a budding young core that could help the Grizzlies return to playoff contention sooner than many outside of Memphis expect. Even though questions will persist about Ja Morant's future, Grizzlies fans can be excited about a potential core of Cedric Coward, Cam Boozer, and Zach Edey.

This hasn't been an easy last few months for the Grizzlies, but Boozer has the chance to help kickstart a new era in Memphis. The Grizzlies had a challenging 2025/26 season, but thanks to Boozer, they could end up bouncing back very quickly. Today should be a day to celebrate for a Grizzlies fanbase that has endured significant struggles the past few seasons.
