2024 NBA Mock Draft: Grizzlies add key piece in lottery, Pistons get future star

15. Phoenix Suns draft Donovan Clingan
It has been a disappointing start to the season for the Suns after going all-in to acquire Bradley Beal. Their Big 3 has rarely been healthy, and Phoenix needs depth to round out their roster. The Suns figure to be over the second tax apron, so getting a quality role player with this draft choice is crucial.
Clingan was the backup center on UConn’s national championship squad in 2023 before taking over as a starter in year two. The 7’2 big man is a traditional center who excels at protecting the rim and finishing inside. Clingan will be a role player in the NBA. He struggles to defend on the perimeter, but expect him to be an impactful rotation piece.
He is currently sidelined by a foot injury and those are a worry moving forward. The 19-year-old averaged 13.9 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 2.0 blocks in 20.7 minutes per game through his first 12. Injuries have prevented him from increasing his playing time, but there is plenty to get excited about from the teenage big man.
The Suns need a center behind Jusuf Nurkic to offer rebounding, size, and rim protection. Donovan Clingan is ready to come off the bench and make an impact in limited minutes as a rookie, which is precisely what Phoenix should be searching for in this draft.
