2024 NBA Mock Draft: Grizzlies add key piece in lottery, Pistons get future star

24. Philadelphia 76ers snag Melvin Ajinca
The 76ers are keeping their options open. They could look to land another star before the trade deadline or keep cap space clear this summer. President Daryl Morey is building around Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, but their ancillary pieces are uncertain at this point.
Melvin Ajinca is in his fifth season of professional basketball. The 6’7 forward has size and athletic ability. He can guard multiple positions and is the cousin of seven-year NBA veteran Alexis Ajinca. The 19-year-old is averaging 9.3 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 0.8 assists in 23.8 minutes per game this season.
Ajinca needs time to develop, but he could be a key rotation piece as a combo forward. He shot 38.8 percent from 3-point range last season and is making over 35 percent through 18 games. Ajinca needs to consistently knock down jumpers and improve his passing ability to become a quality role player in the NBA.
The Sixers have two stars and are looking for a third. They will be searching for a complimentary piece with an intriguing skill set in this draft. Melvin Ajinca could blossom into a quality role player who sinks open shots and defends multiple positions, which is just what Philly needs around Embiid and Maxey.
