7. San Antonio Spurs (via Raptors) draft Ron Holland

Holland entered the season as the favorite to be selected first overall. Teams were excited about a 6’8 wing with potential on both ends of the floor, but the struggles of the G League Ignite have sunk his stock. Some are questioning if Holland even goes in the lottery, but his upside will win out at some point.

The 18-year-old averaged 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 2.3 steals in 32.2 minutes each night over his first seven regular season games. Those are strong numbers, but Holland shot just 40.9 percent from the field and had a negative assist-to-turnover ratio. There are questions about his jumper and ability to handle a go-to scoring role. Still, there is plenty to like.

Holland competes hard on the defensive end and high steal numbers often translate to the NBA. He is listed at 6’8 and could be a plus defender who can get buckets. The 18-year-old needs time to develop, but there is plenty of potential.

The San Antonio Spurs pair Ron Holland with Nikola Topic in this mock draft. They get their point guard of the future and a 6’8 wing whose defenses should pop more next to Victor Wembanyama. Add those two to the Spurs young talent and something is certainly brewing in the Alamo.
