Trade the 2024 first-round picks
As it currently stands, the Grizzlies own two first-round picks in this summer's NBA draft. They still have their own pick which will land in the lottery, as well as a pick from either the Phoenix Suns or Washington Wizards. Both could be used to select potential high-end talent in the first-round, or they could repupose the picks.
As we draw closer to the lottery and the draft, the consensus continues to be that this will be a relatively weak draft class, especially in terms of lottery talent. Could that end up being wrong? Of course, but it seems clear that there are no Victor Wembanyamas in this draft.
If there are no prospects worth risking it all for, what Memphis should do is consider trading away the picks. The team is currently not in a position to be able to wait around for prospects to develop. They are most in need of win-now players.
First-round draft selections will always make General Managers think about making a deal regardless of the rest of the package, simply for the intrigue around what prospects they have been eyeing and what they think they can get. If it can get them a useful rotation player and especially if that player is a starting-caliber wing, it is certainly a decision the Grizzlies should consider.
