4. Scotty Pippen Jr.
There is a certain allure surrounding the sons of former NBA players. And in fact, there are probably more of them around the league than you may think. Gary Payton II, Stephen Curry, Seth Curry, Jaren Jackson Jr., Darius Garland, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins are just a few of the many second-generation players in the NBA today.
But even going a level deeper, there is a clear and obvious interest in sons of past NBA legends or Hall of Famers. Scotty Pippen Jr. is a great example of this. Of course, his father Scottie (spelling difference) played Robin to Michael Jordan's Batman and helped form one of the greatest dynasties in NBA history, winning six titles in eight years during the 1990s.
With Scotty Jr. claiming a two-way contract with the Grizzlies in January, it makes sense that a lot of fans are intrigued at the idea of him on this team. And frankly, their excitement is not unfounded.
Pippen will have to do a lot to live up to being the level of defender his father was, but frankly, that is not a realistic expectation. And that is not to say Scotty will not become a very solid player, but we should be allowing him to grow and develop at his own pace. Put simply, there is enough talent here that the Grizzlies should definitely sign up for a round two.
