The new NBA season is officially here, somewhat, as the Grizzlies hit the road to take on the Dallas Mavericks in each team's first exhibition matchup of the 2024-25 preseason. The Grizzlies fanbase has been anticipating seeing the team on the court in some capacity and the opportunity has finally arrived.

The players available might be limited as some, notably Jaren Jackson Jr., won't be available for the team's first preseason game. Expect other players like rookie two-way point guard Cam Spencer to miss the team's first preseason game as well with a minor ankle injury, and of course, GG Jackson and Vince Williams Jr. as they recover from longer-term injuries.

When to watch Grizzlies at Mavericks

The Grizzlies and Mavericks will tip off at 7:00 PM CST on October 7, the normal time for a preseason and regular season game during a weekday for the team.

How to watch Grizzlies at Mavericks

This game will only be available on NBA League Pass for the Grizzlies fanbase to consume. However, NBA League Pass is offering a 7-day free trial for those that don't have access to it to enjoy Grizzlies games for the next week as they take on the Dallas Mavericks on 10/7, the Charlotte Hornets on 10/10, the Milwaukee Bucks on 10/12, and the Indiana Pacers on 10/14.

What to watch for in Grizzlies at Mavericks

Most people just look forward to basketball in general, but it helps when starters and star players get some run in the preseason. The Grizzlies will play four of their five projected starters, including Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, Marcus Smart, and Zach Edey. As stated earlier, Jaren Jackson Jr. will likely not play due to a low-grade hamstring strain suffered in the team's first training camp practice last week.

Anticipate four-year forward Santi Aldama to start in Jackson Jr.'s place due to his fit as a floor spacer next to Zach Edey. Due to Jaren's absence, the Grizzlies will have a simple rotation, as only 10 of their 13 rostered guys are available. Add in two-way point guard Scotty Pippen Jr., two-way center Jay Huff, and training camp invitees Armando Bacot, Yuki Kawamura, Miye Oni, and Maozinha Pereira to make 16 total players available to play.

What to watch is how Zach Edey looks in his first NBA game with the high-end talent surrounding him, the Grizzlies' new offensive system under assistant coach Tuomas Iisalo, and Scotty Pippen Jr.'s integration in the rotation for the backup point guard competition.
