Grizzlies vs. Sixers key players to watch
Grizzlies
Luke Kennard: The former first-round pick missed two games but returned on Saturday with 5 points and 5 assists in an overtime loss to Portland. In Monday’s win over Brooklyn, though, Kennard had 25 points on 8-of-11 shooting, knocking down six triples. Kennard has now scored in double figures in six of his last eight outings.
Sixers
Kelly Oubre Jr.: Playing without Tyrese Maxey (concussion), Oubre poured in a season-high 30 points on 11-of-20 shooting to go with six rebounds and four assists in Tuesday’s loss at Barclays Center. Oubre has scored 51 points over the last two games combined, going 18-of-37 from the field and 15-of-25 from inside the arc.
Grizzlies vs. Sixers prediction and pick
The Grizzlies have been bitten hard by the injury bug this season and that has continued with Jaren Jackson Jr. (22.4 points per game) missing the last three games.
However, the Sixers are going through bad injury luck, as well, and could be without Maxey for the second straight night in addition to having reigning MVP Joel Embiid sidelined by a knee injury for over a month.
NBA unders have been on fire since the All-Star break, and the path to another low-scoring rockfight is there for this matchup with two top-tier scorers trending toward not suiting up. However, the points seem more valuable on the Memphis side given the Grizzlies’ above-average defense (No. 10 in net rating) facing a Philadelphia offense that will likely need to rely on guys like Tobias Harris and Buddy Hield to carry the load.
Despite a tough season, Memphis has been hanging tough with opponents this season, covering in seven of its last nine games as an underdog. Meanwhile, you’re asking a Philadelphia offense missing its top-2 scorers to win by margin. The 76ers are just 1-5 ATS as a favorite since Embiid went down. Take the points with the Grizzlies.
