3 ambitious trade targets Grizzlies should pursue
By Mark Nilon
1. Mikal Bridges
As stated in the headline, this piece is focused on ambitious targets the Grizzlies should consider pursuing on the trade market this season and, while there are a bevy of names that could be mentioned here today, none are both as ambitious and as (somewhat) realistic of an option as Mikal Bridges.
Like Anunoby, the 27-year-old is someone Memphis is reported to have been strongly interested in acquiring in the past, with Michael Scotto of HoopsHype going as far as to note that the franchise offered up as many as four future first-round picks for his services at last year's trade deadline before the Phoenix Suns ultimately delt him to the Nets in the Kevin Durant blockbuster.
Now in 2023-24, the chatter is back that the Grizzlies should be interested in contacting Brooklyn regarding his availability and, while it's unlikely GM Sean Marks would budge, at the very least it's worth a shot because he's just that damn perfect for this club.
In laymans terms, Bridges is the ideal small forward for this Grizzlies core. From his 6-foot-6 frame with a 7-foot-1 wingspan to his stellar two-way, three-level scoring abilities, the former Villanova standout is a true star in the making.
Since being utilized as a top-billed option within a rotation, the wing has found himself truly erupting, as he boasts incredible averages of 24.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game since joining on with the Nets last season while shooting at a highly efficient 48.0 percent from the field and 39.7 percent from distance.
Adding such a talent would create a potential superteam out in the 38103 and, outside of coughing up Morant, Bane, or Jackson, anyone and anything within the team's arsenal should be offered up in any effort to attain his services, regardless of how unlikely such a happening may be.
At the very least, calling the Nets up to inquire about the wing is a must.
