Desmond Bane: Maintaining offensive refinement
Amidst all of the drama and anguish from what seemed like injury after injury last season, Desmond Bane managed to be a small piece of the silver lining that existed while the team tanked toward the bottom of the Western Conference.
The former 30th overall pick found himself seeing heavier minutes as well as a greater load of the shot selection, having a career high 18.5 shots per game average.
This comes as a natural occurrence after the injury disaster left the majority of Memphis' starting lineup out and the offense in dire need of life.
Enter Desmond Bane, who posted averages of 23.7 points per game in the 42 he played in and served as one of the key options for the Grizzlies to find offense despite missing nearly half the season.
Yet another victim of the injury bug, Bane's limited but promising season showed flashes of just how reliable he can be entering his fifth overall season.
As a key piece of the offense, a greater offensive workload being assigned while maintaining respectable shooting percentages should be a positive takeaway for the Grizzlies staff and continued hope for the Grind City faithful.
During this upcoming season, Bane's task will be to maintain the steady upward trend that he has traveled along thus far to fully develop into a key piece in what will hopefully be a championship Grizzlies team.
With Memphis looking to start the season strong, Bane's deeper understanding of the offensive needs from last season will ideally help translate into a smoother overall offense.
