Jaren Jackson Jr.: Continued defensive leadership

Yet another bright spot even with last season's disappointments, Jaren Jackson Jr. has quickly blossomed not only into one of the pillars that holds the Grizzlies together but an absolute defensive powerhouse.

Jackson, who played what feels like an impressive 66 games for the Grizzlies (a bleak contrast from the rest of the starters) made his presence felt not only as the reigning defensive player of the year from the 2022-2023 season but as a major offensive threat with Memphis still clamoring for more.

As a key piece of the defense, Jackson found himself this season orchestrating the effort made to keep the team together and direct former bench players who were now finding major minutes.

While doing this, the All-Star still found ample time for impressive highlights even against other all-star-level talents.

The continued transformation of the former fourth overall selection has helped facilitate the continued culture of a strong defensive mind in Memphis and will continue to grow into next season when the team begins to incorporate key pieces such as Zach Edey

With major floor generals back in commission, Jackson Jr. can focus on helping anchor a presumably formidable Memphis defense and incorporating Edey as a strong running mate in the frontcourt.

The former Defensive Player of the Year will still have his hands full trying to contend with the best league-wide but will find himself with a strengthened team to back him up.

Continued excellence and guidance from Jackson Jr. and the coaching staff could feasibly put Memphis toward the top of the defensive ladder and aid them in their championship aspirations.
