Grizzlies guard likely 'not going to be coming back': Report
By Mark Nilon
The Memphis Grizzlies have been ravaged by injuries and all sorts of health-related ailments throughout the 2023-24 campaign. Unfortunately for them, even with just two weeks to go till season's conclusion, it doesn't appear that their fortunes in this department are expected to turn.
Recently, head coach Taylor Jenkins issued an update on the current status of Derrick Rose, who has been sidelined on numerous occasions during the year and has been out all of March with a nagging back issue.
Though initially upon sustaining the injury it was believed that he would only be inactive for a few weeks, in a March 29 piece penned by Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal, the headman's comments were recorded regarding his veteran guard's projected return and, unfortunately for him and wing Ziaire Williams, things aren't looking up.
Grizzlies guard Derrick Rose likely 'not going to be coming back' this year
"Most likely they’re not going to be coming back by the end of the season. We’re just kind of taking it day to day."
- Taylor Jenkins, per Damichael Coles
Despite the flair and fanfare that came with his decision to sign with the Grizzlies last offseason, as the year has progressed Rose has failed to make his presence truly be felt within the rotation due, in large, to continued struggles with injuries.
Though somewhat impactful when active, as he's posted averages of 8.0 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.9 rebounds in 16.6 minutes a night, of a potential total of 73 games the 35-year-old has only suited up on 24 occasions.
Should he not wind up making his way back to the hardwood this year, there seems to be a rather realistic chance that, be it to cut salary or open up a roster spot, Zach Kleiman and company could look to part ways with the fallen star this summer.
