Grade the Trade: Nauseating new proposal sees Grizzlies give up on Jaren Jackson Jr.

This new trade idea for the Memphis Grizzlies may be one of the least logical moves they could possibly make.

The Memphis Grizzlies have been one of the more quiet franchises in the entire association throughout this year's offseason.

After finishing with a putrid 27-55 record and on the outside looking in on a playoff berth for the first time in four seasons during this past campaign, one may have expected the club to be quite encouraged to look into ways in which they could revamp coach Taylor Jenkins' talent pool ahead of 2024-25.

Outside of adding their presumed new franchise center Zach Edey during June's NBA Draft and creating a notable amount of extra cap space that can now be used to re-sign savvy sharpshooter Luke Kennard, however, Zach Kleiman and company have not yet made any major splashes.

Of course, considering we're still a few months away from tip-off to what is presumed to be a redemption season for the Grizzlies, there's still plenty of time remaining for them to make some sort of eye-catching move, and Heavy Sports' Collin Loring believes to have come up with a trade scenario that, in his eyes, could be just what they're looking for.

New Grizzlies trade idea involves Jaren Jackson Jr. heading outbound

In a recently crafted piece by Heavy, Loring argued that the All-Star tandem of Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. may have run its course after "Memphis has made the playoffs in three of those five seasons, but made it out of the first round only once in 2022."

Noting that Morant is the club's clear franchise cornerstone, the writer claimed that "maximizing his prime should always be priority," and suggests that swapping Trip-J out for another specific star power forward just might be the best path forward.
