1. Marcus Smart
As noted earlier, no reliable sources are suggesting that the Grizzlies are looking to make any significant moves on the trade market any time soon. However, if they were, many are seemingly under the impression that Marcus Smart would be a likely candidate to receive the boot, and it's easy to see why.
While it's hard to place all blame on him considering the constant reshuffling of his supporting cast (i.e. no chemistry was able to be built) coupled with the fact that he was plagued by nagging injuries throughout the year, it's undeniable that his debut season in Grind City was a complete and utter letdown.
From his putrid shooting splits (43.0/ 31.3/ 76.8), career-worst turnover averages (3.1) and box plus-minus rating (-2.4), and simple incapability of running an offense as a lead guard, Smart's fit with the team proved to be rather questionable.
Of course, there's still little understanding of how he would mesh and complement the team when part of a fully intact lineup (this includes both him as well as his teammates being at 100 percent health), which should be enough incentive for the Grizzlies to hold onto his services at least through the first half of the upcoming season.
However, should things still appear wonky, Kleiman and co. might want to consider cutting their losses by parting ways with him and his final two years, $41.8 million on his current deal and, according to some such as Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, the veteran is still someone who has drawn interest from title-hopefuls across the league thanks to his defensive chops and playoff experience.
Hopefully, Memphis will be one of said playoff-bound teams that could stand to benefit from his specific intangibles and attributes, but, should he fair the same, there's a somewhat realistic possibility that Smart could be a hot-topic name floating around the trade rumor mill ahead of this season's trade deadline.
