Grizzlies frontcourt goes titanic

With a roster featuring a variety of dominant frontcourt players, there's a temptation to run a lineup that seeks to overwhelm the opposition with sheer force and size.

For Memphis, their flexibility in the frontcourt gives them a huge range of options when it comes to a potential jumbo lineup, although obvious names present would be Zach Edey playing at center and Jaren Jackson Jr. playing at the power forward spot.

Considering how essential Ja Morant is to the offensive engine, it's reasonable to extrapolate that he would remain a backcourt fixture even in this lineup, with potential backcourt mates Desmond Bane or Marcus Smart joining him.

To best solidify this unit as a deep threat on both ends, GG Jackson would be the most ideal candidate to fill the small forward spot.

When building around a lineup that features frontcourt players like Edey and Jackson Jr., there's an important emphasis needed to best balance out the team so that they can avoid being constantly mismatched by opponents who will look to exploit weaknesses.

Within the Western Conference alone, there are a plethora of teams that can reasonably switch between a starting five that will attempt to capitalize on points in the paint and offensive rebounding, and then to a smaller lineup that focuses more on a perimeter offense.

GG Jackson helps to solidify a potential jumbo unit as a player who can both provide energetic and savvy defensive rotations, while not sacrificing on the offensive end.

The obvious concern with this type of lineup would be taller and slower players being exploited by opposing teams who will constantly seek out mismatches on defense and transitions, but adding a player like Jackson allows the Grizzlies to maintain a towering frontcourt while still having the ability to stay grounded.

Memphis will have a great deal of decision-making to do as the Summer League continues and as they look to return to the form they were in before the disastrous previous season.
