The NBA preseason is nearing its end and several Grizzlies players have made impressions to either make the roster or enter their 10-man rotation. As the veterans continue to rest their minor injuries, opportunities have arrived for the back half of the roster to earn their claim to show their multiple skill sets.

One player that will be counted on from day one is 7'4" rookie center Zach Edey as the Grizzlies badly needed someone to fill the hole left at the center position. What Zach Edey was known for in college will be used less with more talent around him in the NBA, but that doesn't mean it won't be called on at a moment's notice.

This play will get the fanbase excited

In the Grizzlies' preseason opener against the Mavericks, Ja Morant drove the baseline in the second quarter and threw a lob to Zach Edey for the first basket of his career, something the fanbase couldn't wait to see. The Ja Morant to Zach Edey lob connection will be a treat to watch all season as Ja Morant is one of the best attackers in the league and Zach Edey is one of the tallest players in the league.

Since that play, Zach Edey has been able to post anyone who decides to guard him in the paint. If the Grizzlies continue to work on feeding him, watch out! In their last preseason road game against the Indiana Pacers, Zach Edey showed the NBA world what to expect when he gets his fair share of opportunities in the post.

On the Grizzlies' last offensive possession of the first quarter, Edey had his first opportunity of the night with the 6'10" Isaiah Jackson guarding him. He took his time, allowing the perimeter players to clear out, before taking four dribbles to back his opponent down spinning to his right, and dunking on two Pacers players as the 6'7" Enrique Freeman tried to provide help defense on the back end.

That's the type of play that can get a team that may be struggling to shoot fired up, a play that can get a home crowd that may not have much to cheer for fired up and a play that can quiet a road crowd when things are looking too good. The Grizzlies have found themselves a player that will make other teams adjust to their game plan rather than the Grizzlies adjusting to their opponents.

Zach Edey is a one-of-a-kind play with his height and skill set and the Grizzlies are lucky to have that player on their team as the road to a championship window has been extended.
