The Memphis Grizzlies are 4-0, as they begin a new era without Ja Morant for the first time since 2019. Despite all the changes this team has experienced over the last year, they have played well so far and appear to be building chemistry between returning players and the newest roster additions. Rebuilding isn’t easy, but it’s certainly promising to see this group start on such a strong note, including Ty Jerome going off.

After Morant was traded this summer, there was a looming question about who would be stepping into that role. There are a lot of talented roster pieces who can do so, but Morant, without a doubt, left some big shoes to fill in the 901.

Ty Jerome is here

Ty Jerome came to Memphis after two seasons in Cleveland, where he made significant contributions off the bench for the Cavaliers (most notably in the 2024-25 season, as he was injured the previous year). After signing with the Grizzlies during free agency, Jerome spoke very highly of Zach Kleiman and Tuomas Iisalo’s vision for the team's future, which shows his commitment to the franchise's success dating back to his very first media day in Memphis.

Jerome could have gone to several other teams that offered more enticing financial terms, but he ultimately chose Memphis because he liked the culture and felt his style of basketball would be a strong fit.

Fast forward to the start of the 2026-27 season, and Ty Jerome has put the league on notice after the first three games. He won Western Conference Player of the Week after setting two Grizzlies franchise records; Jerome put up a career high 45 points in the season opener against Utah (a record previously held by Ja Morant at 44 points), and scored over 100 points total over the first three games, with Morant being the only other Memphis player ever to do so. As of October 26, 2026, Jerome also leads the NBA in scoring.

Not only has he been confidently shooting the ball (even from the logo), but he has also been creating opportunities for his teammates, earning more playing time, and establishing himself as a leader on the floor.

Jerome might not have as much experience as some veteran players, but he is entering his 8th NBA season. He also won a National Championship with the University of Virginia in 2019. Now, in a leadership role with a relatively young Grizzlies team, he is proving why guidance and mentorship are so valuable.

Everyone is making a difference

Speaking of young talent, Cam Boozer has also had a wonderful start to the season. After just four games, he already has two double-doubles, a 25-point night, and is showing the world why he was a top-three draft pick.

Cam Boozer, along with Ty Jerome and Jaylen Wells, has put up double-digit scoring figures consistently so far. Additionally, there have also been important contributions from Cedric Coward, Zach Edey, Cam Spencer, Isaiah Stewart, and Jerami Grant. These contributions might not always get reflected in the points column, but every rebound, assist, block, steal, or drawn offensive foul matters.

This group has done a great job so far, which is why they find themselves sitting 4-0 to start the year, and they’re just getting started!
