Ja Morant trade rumors swirled almost immediately after the Grizzlies' season ended in April, and none of it stemmed from anything related to the organization or his play. National media tried to stir the pot to get the star out of a city that is perceived as not being a destination for other players in the NBA to want to play in.
That notion was dispelled when Ja Morant came to the defense of the city and announced that he will be in the 901 (Memphis area code) in response to Stephen A. Smith's comments about the city while discussing the topic of whether he should be traded in June. Since that moment, the Memphis mayor invited Smith to the city to discuss its issues, which Smith accepted.
Also, the former Grizzlies star who was just traded during that timeframe, Desmond Bane, came to the defense of the city in an interview on The Young Man and the Three podcast. The Grizzlies' other star, Jaren Jackson Jr., has pledged his allegiance to the city on numerous occasions and quickly negotiated and signed a five-year extension when free agency began.
The Grizzlies' starting center and first team All-Rookie performer from last season just became the latest player to make his allegiance to Memphis known.

Along with getting the Grizzlies' team logo tatted on his arm, Zach Edey got the bridge that is iconic to the city and separates the state line between Tennessee and Arkansas tatted as well. The Grizzlies' tattoo represented at least the second current Grizzlies player to get the team logo tatted on his body.
The other Grizzlies player? Ja Morant got the Grizzlies logo tatted on his back in 2023, making at least two current Grizzlies who have thought enough of the organization and the city itself to get something to represent it tatted on them. While that is a small token of appreciation of the team and city itself, it shows that the current players enjoy their time in the city and on the team.

There has been a rare case of players who have played for the team that hasn't had anything good to say about it. Memphis isn't a glamorous destination as one of, if not the smallest, markets in the NBA. However, the city shows love to those who return the favor, and Zach Edey will forever remain in the good graces of the city after his recent tattoo addition.
