The Memphis Grizzlies trampled the Portland Trail Blazers again in a commanding 97-82 victory in Game 2 of their first round series.

82. 34. Final. 97. 211

The Memphis Grizzlies continued their domination of the Portland Trail Blazers by defeating them for the sixth consecutive time this season. Despite a slow start, the Grizzlies outworked and outhustled the Blazers. Memphis came to the game and did just as their mantra states–to grit and to grind for a full 48 minutes.

Memphis and their All-Star center, Marc Gasol, had some added motivation to pounce on a W last night. While it was foolish on Portland’s part, the home team kept their cool and powered through the game and made the Blazers pay. The Grizzlies, although known for their world class defense, displayed some of the best defense in Game 2 that Grizz Nation has witnessed all season long.

Beno Udrih went down with a sprained ankle in the second quarter, but he returned to action only to continue his shine for the Memphis Grizzlies. He is having a great postseason in just the first two games of this first round series.

Portland’s dynamic duo–Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge— continued to shoot poorly from the field in Game 2, but perhaps the outcome being not as eye-popping as in Game 1. Dame went 5/16 for 18 points with just one assist tonight, while LA posted a double-double with 24 points and 14 rebounds all on 7/20 shooting. Memphis has done a tremendous job in not allowing any Trail Blazer to run wild in terms of production mixed with efficiency. Game 2 was Aldridge’s most efficient game thus far into the series, and he still only shot 35% from the field.

Another important item to note is that Memphis’ Tony Allen and Mike Conley look to be back to their normal selves after just coming back from injuries in Game 1. Conley helped Courtney Lee in handling the scoring load–both providing 18 points each. Allen, the proclaimed Grindfather, played exceptional defense–leading the Grizzly charge.

Big Spain led the Grizzlies down the final stretch along with a huge Vince Carter trey ball to seal the deal–resulting in a 15-point win in Game 2 after notching a 14-point victory in Game 1.

The Memphis Grizzlies will now focus on their preparation for Game 3 of the series as they will travel to Portland. The third and fourth games of this series will be played on the road at the Rose Garden, where the Grizzlies have already been victorious twice this season. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday with a tip time of 9:30 P.M. CT.
