The Memphis Grizzlies traded forward Jon Leuer for a second round Draft pick during the NBA Draft and has landed with the Phoenix Suns.

As you know by now, the Memphis Grizzlies swapped forward Jon Leuer for the Phoenix Suns’ 44th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft on Thursday. The 44th pick wound up being Andrew Harrison out of the University of Kentucky.

This marked the parting of ways between the Grizz and Leuer. “Jonny Badger” spent two full seasons plus part of another while calling the 901 his home away from home. His Memphis tenure saw a total of 131 games (6 starts), including averages of 4.7 points and 3.0 rebounds per game. He did so while producing a cumulative 48.8% overall shooting percentage (38.5% from three-point land).

Jon Leuer became a Grizz Nation fan favorite in his 2.5 seasons and lots of Grizz faithful will miss seeing him in a home uniform in the Grindhouse. The Phoenix Suns–a team that plays at a high pace and has a need for athletic bigs such as Leuer–will be able to use JL in order to spread the floor and find even more open shots along the perimeter. Their offensive scheme is more geared toward Jon’s game because he tends to be most effective near the perimeter rather than being in the paint scrounging for put-backs.

Hopefully this is a deal that will result in being a positive move for both parties. Jon Leuer is a class act that deserves consistent playing time somewhere in the NBA. The Suns should stick with him.

Today, JL tweeted and posted his words of thanks to the Memphis Grizzlies’ fans and the organization.

From all of us at Beale Street Bears, best of luck in Phoenix, Jon!
