5. San Antonio Spurs (Feb. 6)

The Memphis Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs should be the two teams jousting for the Southwest Division title and a top 4 seed in the West.

This Feb. 6 matchup will be the first time the Grizzlies face the Spurs at home. Another factor in this match-up will be the battle of the Gasol Brothers.

It’ll be interesting to see how the crowd reacts to Pau Gasol, as he is playing for a long-time rival.

How will the Spurs use reigning Defensive Player of the Year Kawhi Leonard on the defensive end? With Chandler Parsons manning the 3 spot, Greg Popovich now has to decide whether to use his superstar defender on Mike Conley or Chandler Parsons.

If he chooses to put Kawhi on Conley, it means a 6’6″ Danny Green on a 6’10” Chandler Parsons. This move would allow Parsons to shoot over Green all night. Furthermore, Kawhi would prevent Conley from getting into his flow on offense.

If Popovich has Kawhi on Parsons, Conley can then blow past the aging Tony Parker or Danny Green. On the other hand, Pop would essentially take the Memphis Grizzlies top 3-point threat out of his game.

Zach Randolph and LaMarcus Aldridge should put on a great battle, as will the Gasol Brothers.

All four games between these teams should be exciting, but for Grizzlies fans, Pau’s first trip to Memphis as a Spur is the biggest of the four matchups.
