No. 2: The Memphis Grizzlies don’t have enticing young assets

Let’s take a look at the packages/young prospects mentioned in Zach Lowe’s column:

  • Boston: IT, Jae Crowder, 2018 Lakers’ pick (2-5 protected) or 2019 Kings’ pick unprotected
  • Phoenix: Eric Bledsoe and Josh Jackson
  • Miami: Gordan Dragic, Justice Winslow and Wayne Ellington
  • Milwaukee: Khris Middleton, Malcolm Brogdon and two unprotected picks
  • Denver: Wilson Chandler, Gary Harris, Jamal Murray and picks
  • Minnesota: Andrew Wiggins

Yeah, the Grizzlies can’t beat any of these with their young assets – or even some of the rotation players. Obviously, Cleveland will be rebuilding after next season. LeBron has dropped every possible hint that he’s leaving. Why would the Cavs want guys like Wade Baldwin and Deyonta Davis when they could get Andrew Wiggins instead?

Due to poor drafting and player development over the years, the Grizzlies can’t leverage a blockbuster trade without giving up a cornerstone piece.
