Memphis Grizzlies: Ranking possible landing spots for Tyreke Evans
Wild Card: San Antonio
The Spurs are in a peculiar situation, one they haven’t been in for a while. They’re without their best player – a top-five player at that. They’re also thin on the wings. Aside from a 40-year old Manu Ginobli, there’s not a single wing that could create for themselves and others.
Tyreke Evans isn’t a prime Spurs fit. He’s an erratic player at times, sometimes dribbling too much and looking off teammates on drives. In addition, his shot selection could be poor, but it hasn’t been a big deal this season as he’s reached career-best levels of efficiency. Despite his flaws, Spurs need a legitimate spark to their team – even if he doesn’t perfectly fit the system.
Evans is a playmaker and has filled in admirably at the starting point guard spot (averaging 6.2 assists as a starter). He’s also proven himself as a reliable outside threat, a necessity for the Spurs’ system. LaMarcus Aldridge just needs help, and Evans could provide that.
They’re still third in the Western Conference, and adding a player like Tyreke Evans could help a huge help for them – especially if Kawhi makes his return. However, with the lack of marquee young talent and Kawhi’s murky situation, no one knows the Spurs’ intentions at the trade deadline.
Ideal return: Brandon Paul and 2018 first-round pick.
