Memphis Grizzlies: What’s Wayne Selden’s ceiling?
The Wing the Grizzlies have been needing
Since the Rudy Gay trade, the Grizzlies have been in search of a solid wing player, and Wayne Selden can be that guy. Right now, Selden is working on the mental aspect on staying consistent from 3, but that’s really it. Diving to the basket and beating guys off the dribble, Selden has an arsenal of ways to beat you for his size.

His ceiling will have to do with who is coaching him moving forward. We always see young guys come back to Memphis and kill the Grizzlies, but why? Previous coaching staffs haven’t been strong in developing young talent, and then throw it on the front office to “move on.” Former head coach David Fizdale brought in an All-Star group of coaches that can help develop players. Now that Fizdale is gone, will J.B. Bickerstaff stay? If he stays, what assistants will he keep? For Selden, and the rest of the young guys, it will be key for assistants like Keith Smart and Nick Van Exel to stay in Memphis.
Bickerstaff and his coaching staff can develop him into a guy that’ll learn to be patient on the big play. Selden likes to dunk the ball, and God knows we like his one-handed slams, but he should learn when to make that move and when to pass it up. Consistency will be the key for Selden, but his teammates think that he can get there. Feeling his game and doing it consistently will make or break Selden in Memphis. If the coaching staff stays, and he works on the mental aspect of the game, Selden can be the starting two-guard in Memphis for the next seven to eight years. — Brendan Smart (@bsmart21)
