The Memphis Grizzlies finally ended their losing streak. Though they’ve only won one game since February, they have a bright spot in Dillon Brooks.
The Memphis Grizzlies haven’t been winning many games (s/o to last night’s win though). However, they definitely won when they drafted Dillon Brooks.
WOW! Who expected this to come? (I kind of did, but no big deal).
Dillon Brooks has been balling out, and it’s such a bright spot for this Grizzlies team. For the first time since OJ Mayo’s rookie campaign, they finally have a young player to be excited about. Brooks may not become a superstar player, but he could establish himself as a key cog for the Grizzlies’ immediate and distant future.
Over the course of this month, Brooks has displayed a nose for scoring the basketball. He can take it to the goal, shoot off the dribble and fire away from deep.
The Grizzlies have groomed Brooks to become the team’s next defensive stopper all season long. Now, he’s making strides as a legitimate 3&D scorer — something that’s coveted in today’s NBA. Granted, he hasn’t been the most efficient scorer lately, but what do you expect from a rookie asked to carry a pretty heavy scoring load?
It’s hard to say whether or not he can keep up this scoring pace, but Brooks’ development in that area is great for the Grizzlies. He’s playing like the guy everyone expected Chandler Parsons to be but at a fraction of the cost. He’s scoring in a variety of ways and is making life easier for Marc Gasol and Tyreke Evans.
Brooks’ scoring will surely become important next season when Mike Conley is back and a top-five pick is on the team.
Next: What's Dillon Brooks' ceiling?
The Memphis Grizzlies may not win many games next season, but Dillon Brooks will make them worth watching.
