Kobi Simmons — a young point guard prospect belonging to the Memphis Grizzlies — celebrates his 21st birthday today on the July 4th holiday.

Today, July 4th, is a national holiday in the United States. It also marks the birthdate for the Memphis Grizzlies’ Kobi Simmons. It is a bigger year to celebrate than most for him as he is now officially 21 years old.

Simmons may be unfamiliar to basketball fans outside of Grizz Nation. He went undrafted in 2017, though he is quickly making a name for himself in the 2018 Utah Summer League. It should not be long until visiting teams start game-planning specifically for Kobi.

Through two games this week, where the Memphis Grizzlies find themselves with an undefeated record at 2-0, Simmons has been stellar. He has posted totals of 41 points, three assists, seven rebounds, and two steals. Kobi and Jaren Jackson Jr. led the way for the Grizz versus the Atlanta Hawks on Monday, but JJJ fell off in the seccond half of Tuesday’s matchup with the Utah Jazz. Kobi Simmons remained a constant force, with Wayne Selden Jr. joining alongside him.

Simmons performed extremely well for seemingly coming out of nowhere for the Grizzlies as a rookie in 2017-18. He appeared in 32 regular season contests for Memphis while establishing averages of 6.1 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.1 assists on

The future is very bright for the Memphis Grizzlies with Kobi Simmons developing at the point guard position behind veteran Mike Conley. It could be as early as 42.3% field goal shooting accuracy. Based on the improvements being displayed thus far in summer league play by Kobi, Grizz Nation should not be shocked if he is the primary backup for Conley once the regular season opens in October. It would not be a reach and the basketball world will likely witness him thrive with a larger opportunity in his sophomore season.
