Former Memphis Grizzlies Wing Causes Stir in BIG3 Finale
The entertaining BIG3 league’s Season Two could not come to a close without some added excitement via a former member of the Memphis Grizzlies.
The basketball world’s premier professional three-on-three league — known as BIG3 — found instant success in 2017. They have only gained momentum in their second season, especially as more big names have agreed to join their platform.
On Friday, BIG3’s thrilling Season Two came to a close. For hoops fans, this summer has been a real treat. It will be interesting to see the next step this league takes for Season Three in 2019.
As far as the BIG3 league goes, Friday’s championship game was a dream for fans of the Memphis Grizzlies. The two squads featured a combined total of four former Grizzlies, with three of them being a part of 3’s Company. Half of the ex-Grizzlies featured in BIG3’s second season appeared in the final game. Talk about nostalgia.

If you have kept up with BIG3 at any time over the past two years, you know it is all about the entertainment factor. Friday’s season finale provided plenty of entertainment to say the least. It also brought plenty of physicality.
3’s Company’s Dahntay Jones, a 2003 NBA Draft pick of the Memphis Grizzlies, triggered Power’s Corey Maggette after slightly catching Maggette’s right leg on the way down from a made jump shot. Though the replay does not appear to display any maliciousness on Jones’ behalf, he does have a history of dirty plays during his 15-season NBA career. Directly below, find the play and ensuing scrum.
This sequence lit a fire underneath Team Power. From this point, they did not take their foot off the accelerator. They became the victors after a hard-fought season and championship battle.
The old adage is “defense wins championships.” For Chris Andersen, infamous for his “Birdman” and “Grizz Zilla” nicknames, this was absolutely true on Friday night. This week, he collected Defensive Player of the Year hardware in addition to a championship trophy. A member of the Memphis Grizzlies for one season, it is nice to see Andersen finding success in life after the NBA. Overall, it is fun to watch these ex-Grizzlies continue their professional basketball careers in a nontraditional manner.
Go Grizz!
