5. How will the wing rotation take shape?

One of Memphis’ many sore spots in 2017-18 was an absolutely pitiful lack of wing depth. Dillon Brooks proved himself a large steal with the 2017 NBA Draft’s 45th overall pick; a smart two-way player with a high motor.

But behind Brooks, there was scant evidence of a rotation, such that the Grizzlies made remodeling it their offseason priority. The result? A mixed bag.

While Beale Street fans no longer have to endure Ben McLemore, they also lost Tyreke Evans after his stellar comeback season. In their stead are Kyle Anderson, Omri Casspi, and Garrett Temple. Not exactly Danny Ocean stuff.

The question thus becomes how these new pieces will fit alongside Dillon Brooks, Wayne Selden, and — papier-machée knees permitting — Chandler Parsons. There is not much of a pecking order among the reserves, nor is it clear what each can deliver.

Brooks’ minutes should be uncontested at the two. He is already likely the best defender of the bunch, and also has the most upside. Anderson should command the bulk of floor time at small forward, but is malleable enough to play three positions.

Kyle Anderson alone brings more depth and credibility than the Memphis Grizzlies’ wing had last year. If Temple can produce anywhere near his $8 million price tag, it will be icing on the cake.
