It’s a Gasol Thing

What could lure Jimmy Butler into wanting to be a member of the Memphis Grizzlies? Quite possibly, the name “Gasol.”

In two seasons as a member of the Chicago Bulls, Marc’s brother — Pau Gasol — was a teammate of Butler. During that span, Pau and Jimmy formed a friendship. Years after the two players were no longer teammates, the bond still exists.

Earlier this offseason, Jimmy Butler accepted the invitation to play in the Gasol brothers’ Pau Vs Marc charity game held in Spain. Butler is closely acquainted to the Gasol brothers and knows the playing style of Marc. It would not be a totally blind new beginning for the Timberwolves’ wing if a deal were to be made.

Dillon Brooks also appeared in the Gasol brothers’ charity game and defended Jimmy Butler for much of the match. This added familiarity could be just enough to persuade Jimmy to accept a deal to Memphis if the Grizzlies were to inquire strongly about his services.
