Less than one week into the makings of the 2018-19 season, the Memphis Grizzlies can already be identified and defined.
In what was expected to be a highly competitive training camp, it is evident that the 2018-19 NBA season will have a different feel for the Memphis Grizzlies.
The current roster has a wide variety of talent. The common theme is the versatility, as recently described by Grizzlies Head Coach J.B. Bickerstaff.
Guys will have plenty of opportunity to log minutes at more than one position. This has the potential to create nightmares for the opposition on a nightly basis. Plus, Memphis is prepared if injury were to strike as they have great bench depth.

Thus far, the new season is clearly more positive than the course of the 2017-18 season. A bill of good health obviously helps. Promising rookies, developed sophomores, and talented newcomers certainly play into the equation as well.
However, there is one item that really sticks out. There is not the large gap between the Memphis Grizzlies’ youth and the veterans. Guys seem humble. There is not the existence of egos. This team is having fun. Together.
The perfect word to define this particular Grizzlies group is togetherness. This is definitely an improvement from past seasons, especially as a former Grizzly discussed with Beale Street Bears the trying times of being placed in the team’s developmental jailhouse.
Memphis’ three-time All-Star center, Marc Gasol, said it best via Twitter on Friday.
There it is again — together.
This word was on fully display on Saturday during the Grizzlies’ annual Open Practice event inside the Grindhouse. These Grizzlies are already benefitting from the offseason team gathering discussed by Garrett Temple. It is something special with Memphis that really sets this upcoming season apart from others in the past.
These Memphis Grizzlies are going to play for one another. Improved ball movement will be had, even though offense will become generated following stifling team defense. Plus, the emergence of a new leader — or the plural form in leaders — is something the team has lacked since the dismemberment of the Core Four.
The journey begins not in the regular season, but rather on Tuesday when Memphis faces the Houston Rockets in the Grizzlies’ first preseason game.
Unity must be had throughout every portion of the upcoming season if this squad truly wants to clinch a playoff berth within the almighty Western Conference. Early indicators point to togetherness. It will take each and every Grizzly in order to make the 2018-19 season a success.
