Two years and countless millions of dollars later, Memphis Grizzlies fans are still waiting for the real Chandler Parsons to please stand up. Will he keep them waiting yet again?

This is either the easiest or hardest Memphis Grizzlies player season preview to write; perhaps both at once. In the now-fabled Summer of ’16, free agent Chandler Parsons was lavished with a four-year/$94.4 million contract by a Grizzlies Front Office desperate for shooting and wing depth.

Halfway through said deal, the results have been dismal. Parsons has appeared in just 70 games over two seasons in Memphis, earning a whopping $674,000 per outing. When healthy, he has been a shell of his former self, and the very legitimate question lingers as to whether he will ever be the same again.

As many athletes have recently done in the face of public scrutiny, Parsons penned a Players’ Tribune opus to the city of Memphis last month. While avoiding any direct mention of #Chancun, Parsons admits he did not publicly deal with his injury in the most professional manner. The piece may be mild consolation for Grizzlies fans, but his true penance must come on the court.
