Making the Case for Jaren Jackson Jr.

Jaren Jackson Jr. is a forward-center combination that the Memphis Grizzlies just endured an entire season of miserty in order to select at the fourth overall pick in June’s NBA Draft.

Jaren’s calling card at the moment is his defense in addition to the ability to shoot from downtown — way downtown in some instances. His first Summer League performance was stellar, one that left many echoing Kevin Garnett‘s sentiment of Jaren being the very first “Kawhi Big.”

That 29-point debut was jaw-dropping. From that moment, I went from disappointed in the Grizzlies passing on Trae Young and Michael Porter Jr., to feeling that Memphis got the best player in potentially one of the best drafts in NBA history.

JaMychal Green possesses potential to be a seamless starter in this high-speed, three-point shooting era when healthy and engaged. Jaren Jackson Jr. poses the potential to be a league MVP-caliber player.

Being as the Memphis Grzzlies are in desperate need of another star player and “Triple-J” was drafted to be one, there is no better opportunity to launch this project.

While we hold off the inevitable, other NBA teams are embracing their future prospects at a rapid rate. Memphis must start approaching things by favoring their biggest picture.

JaMyke is definitely a great third big man for the team (including Marc Gasol as the lead man) as he can sub in for Jaren as a power forward or sub for Marc, sliding the rookie over to the center position. Everybody still wins.
