NBA Recap: Memphis Grizzlies Tune Out the Jazz in 92-84 Road Victory
By AJ Salah
Mildly Offensive
Memphis eventually won this game with their defense, but they did themselves no favors on the other end down the stretch. While Utah barfed up bricks on quality looks, the Memphis Grizzlies could not even develop an offensive flow. They were looking way too much like last season’s tank brigade.
Shelvin Mack was the only Grizzly to score in the fourth quarter’s first six minutes; Memphis shot 1-8 over that stretch. Had it not been for Utah’s own offensive misery, this game very well could have swung the other way.
This marked the second consecutive game for the Utah Jazz where a former Jazzman haunted them into a loss. Golden State’s Jonas Jerebko was the first.
The Grizzlies’ lack of scoring depth was on full display in this game. It’s not outlandish to say they were lucky to come away with a win. A 16-point fourth quarter lead was squandered away in a flash, but Memphis was able to hold off Utah’s comeback attempt.
